Allsorts: Stories From Under the Southern Cross

Hawkeye Books presents this collection of 43 jolly good tales from the Sydney Hammond Memorial Short Story Competition 2019. This is a socially important collection that represents the way Australians think about our country. These stories will delight, captivate, surprise, and move you.

Loving Nalini by Rachel Armstrong

Brad, a white Australian medical student from country Queensland, struggles with his feelings for his best friend Nalini, a beautiful Indian girl whose father expects her to return to India with her medical degree and consent to an arranged marriage.

Loving Nalini was inspired by the medical students who have passed through my work and is set at Townsville's IndiaFest.

About the Anthology

This anthology contains the winners, short-listed, and long-listed entries from the 2019 Sydney Hammond Memorial Short Story Competition. Writers were asked to write short 1000 word stories about diversity in Australia.
