Scribblerz Anthology 2 Book Launch

Picture
As part of the facilitating team of the Scribblerz writers group for children with outback fiction author Jill Staunton, I launched Scribblerz Anthology 2 today. In January, children attended a narrative writing workshop where they drafted, wrote, and edited a short story. I formatted and printed the anthology. Today, very excited children received their published stories.

Scribblerz Anthology 2 is available for purchase on Amazon and Booktopia.

Malady takes the Castle - Published in TWPC's Infection Anthology

Picture
My short story Malady takes the Castle will soon be published in the Townsville Writers and Publishers Centre's anthology Infection. Malady takes the Castle is a historical piece set in her fictional country of Zvur, the home of her novel Almost a Princess.

I'm very proud to be part of this anthology with a group of nine other local authors. The anthology presents ten thrilling stories across a range of genres and captures many aspects of infection. As a TWPC team member, I have been involved in many aspects of this anthology. In addition to writing a story, I created the cover, formatted the paperback and ebooks, and am publishing the anthology.

Scribblerz Workshop - Narrative Fiction

Picture
The Townsville Writers and Publishers Centre hosted their school holiday writing workshop for children again this month. I enjoyed assisting the 8-12 year old Scribblerz in their fiction writing workshop, helped them edit their 500 word short story, and is getting ready to produce Scribblerz Anthology 2, which will be released later this year.

TWPC's Ravenswood Writers Retreat

Picture
Along with nine fellow writers, this weekend I attended the TWPC's annual writers retreat in historic Ravenswood. I had the pleasure of organising and facilitating the retreat, where I conducted short workshops on first pages, characters, and conflict. Participants also shared the first pages of their work for critique. The weekend was a success for both myself and the TWPC.

Scribblerz Cushion Cover Presentation

Picture
Microfiction cushion covers were presented to the young writers today. At the July workshop, participants wrote a 50-80 word story and I had the pleasure of designing the text onto a cushion cover, creating seven beautiful covers with stories by very talented children.

Scribblerz Anthology 1 Book Launch

Picture
The anthology created by young writers from January's workshop was launched and presented to the little authors today. I had great fun formatting and creating the anthology with the wonderful help of illustrator and cover designer Matt B Lewis, Scribblerz facilitator and editor Jill Staunton, and everyone else who contributed to the Scribblerz Workshop. Needless to say, all the hard work of putting the anthology together was worth it after seeing the excitement on these young faces.

Scribblerz Workshop - Microfiction

Picture
This week, I'm assisting with the TWPC's second Scribblerz Workshop, helping host a two day workshop with facilitator Jill Staunton, who taught participants about microfiction. The children wrote wonderful 8 word stories, 25 word stories, and then produced a 50-80 word story to print on a cushion cover. I will be busy over the next few days designing these cushion covers for the seven excited children.

You can read more about the workshop success here.

Short Story Workshop with Angela Slatter

Picture
Thanks to the wonderful work of the TWPC, short story specialist and award winning author Angela Slatter came to Townsville to deliver her short story workshop. I'm not a short story writer, but this workshop was valuable in providing feedback on one short story from Angela and fellow attendees. This will be very useful for upcoming Little Gems contests!
