Dance Styles

I have always loved to dance and have been attending dance class since I was ten. I loved participating in dance performances at school and even studied dance during my high school junior years. However, I have probably danced more as an adult when the responsibility was all mine - I didn't have my parents saying 'no it's too expensive' and was able to get myself to class.

I have not tried every dance style out there, but these are my top five dance styles.

1. Contemporary

Contemporary dance is modern and fun with the feel of ballet but is free of strict structure. While it is often a slower sort of dance style, it can be danced to a faster tempo. Contemporary is a great form of dance if you want to express yourself.

2. Jazz

Jazz was where I started, basic fun dancing to a more upbeat tempo. I started jazz when I was ten and have danced many jazz performances at various dance schools. Jazz is exciting, fun, and a great way to get fitter too.

3. Burlesque

Burlesque is fun, sassy, and not at all naughty like some might think (although it can be if you make it). I started burlesque in 2018 and have done a few performances - keeping all my clothes on of course. Burlesque is fun because it's all about simple isolated movements, feeling confident (and sexy), and teasing the audience with cheek. I'd recommend anyone give this a try as it's also great for beginners.

4. Ballet

I started ballet as an adult in an adult class and have never danced on pointe, but I enjoy the structure and strength that ballet takes. And it is never too late to start as ballet can be for everyone, especially those wishing to feel elegant and find a little discipline in their dancing.

5. Belly dance

Belly dance is the latest dance style I've tried and it is so much fun! While it might not always be about the belly, it is definitely a great ab workout and makes you feel exotic and awesome. This dance style is for everyone, especially those looking for some body confidence.
