Victoria and her Goldfish

Picture
My first piece completed with Lauren Elizabeth Fine Art. This was the prompt for the Day #10 Artist Challenge.

I joined the Animal Art Masterclass this past weekend to further pursue my painting and build my skills with the focus on animals. Lauren's aim is to help beginner to advanced artists reduce stress through animal art. She has many tutorials that focus on wildlife as well as lessons aimed at learning how to paint your pets, which is my goal.

I was drawn to this prompt because I liked the many different images it included, and I thought the cat was cute.

I have related it to my book by painting the cat to resemble Victoria, my heroine's cat from Bali Holiday.

Anastasia Hamilton

Picture
This piece was created at a Wasted Paint class inspired by Picasso's faces. We were instructed through this painting, but were able to choose inspiration from wherever. Some people chose to paint themselves. I, of course, drew inspiration from one of my books.

Blue Bay

Picture
My sixth work completed at Wasted Paint. It was at this class where I was inspired to paint my brother a painting, leading to the collection of works for Christmas 2019.

Leafy Pot Plant

Picture
Completed at Wasted Paint. We were instructed through how to draw the pot plant and layer the leaves. I decided to add the pretty butterfly.

I used the techniques in this painting to paint The Family Vases.

Mirabella's Island

Picture
This work was completed at an art class on Hamilton Island with artist-in-residence Elena Parashko.

I attended this class for my book Reunited with the Millionaire, where my artist character Mirabella attends a class whilst holidaying. After my visit, I wrote the scene to involve Mirabella painting an island as well.

Jellyfish

Picture
Completed at Wasted Paint. This remains one of my favourite paintings from this class.

Again, my love for painting only grew from here.

In the Surf

Picture
I completed this piece at my third Wasted Paint class. We were instructed on where and how to place the surfboards and people. There is no symbolism in this painting. I did, however, choose to paint a border collie instead of a pig.

Pink Cactus

Picture
This was my second completed work at Wasted Paint. We were instructed on how and where to place the different type of cacti and were given creative license on colour. I chose a pink background because it is my favourite colour. This remains one of my favourite Wasted Paint paintings.

By completing this painting, my love for art continued to grow.

Romance Mandala

Picture
This was my first painting and completed at Wasted Paint. The mandala is a symbolic spiritual image which, when meditated on, can bring profound inner transformation. I chose to include hearts on my mandala to symbolise my being a romance writer.

I enjoyed this class immensely and was amazed at how I could create such a piece with no art experience. This lead to continued attendance at Wasted Paint and was the start of my painting journey.

Art is a new love of mine. I love creating vibrant, visual pieces of art to brighten up my - and other peoples! - home. While I've always loved being creative with words and dance, I've never been a visual artist. But now, I'm so excited to be exploring this new hobby.

In early 2019, I attended a social paint and sip night in Townsville called Wasted Paint where we are instructed through the basics of a painting. I loved going there, learning new techniques, and seeing the many different paintings that are created by the one prompt. By the end of 2019, I honed everything I'd learned to create paintings for my family for Christmas. Sadly, Wasted Paint was cancelled during the pandemic of 2020.

It wasn't until August 2020 when I picked up a paintbrush again. When my little dog Timmy was diagnosed as terminal and we knew his days were numbered, I decided to do a painting for my mum. It helped me deal with my grief by painting my childhood puppy Timmy at the rainbow bridge where my other childhood dog Dillon was waiting for him. During this, I rediscovered my love for painting and set myself a new goal - to paint Timmy.

That's when I joined Lauren Elizabeth Fine Art's online Animal Art Masterclass. Now, my goal is to paint animals. I also hope to build my skills in landscapes to capture images from my books. And that's the story so far!

So this is just a little blog where I share the paintings I've created.
